SOUTHWEST COAST – Municipal elections are scheduled to be held on Tuesday, Sept. 28.
In Port aux Basques there are a total of 11 candidates vying for only 6 council seats. Leading them will be Brian Button, who was acclaimed as Mayor on nomination day, August 31 after no rival candidate stepped forward. Current Mayor John Spencer has chosen not to seek re-election.
In Isle aux Morts, no elections are necessary as all councillors have been decided through acclamation. Forming the next council are the following: John Coley Jr., Tonya Harvey, Thomas Herritt, Nelson Lillington, and Damon Organ.
In Rose Blanche – Harbour Le Cou, the candidates for Council are Gary Bateman, Fred Billard, Clayton Durnford, Gordon Edwards, Mona Harris, Jennifer Keeping, Henry Lawrence, Craig Savoury, and Frank Touchings. As with previous years, the Mayor will be elected at the first meeting of the new council.
Nominations for Burnt Islands Town Council will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 7 at the Town Office, after which candidates will be announced.
