A two nothing sweep was not thought to be in the cards when the high school hockey playoffs started last week as the Saints took on the Elwood Lakers.
A sweep was exactly what the Saints pulled off as a 6-3 victory Thursday night sealed the deal as the Saints advance to round two.
Spencer Caines has been playing some good hockey for the Saints picking up yet another hat trick on Thursday night. Caines has also suited up for a couple of games for the WCSHL’s Deer Lake Red Wings as well giving him some experience in a higher level of hockey.
The Saints took a hit first mentality into these playoffs and so far its paid dividends. Andrew Mercer leading the way in the physical game up front with Owen Leriche leading the hitting party on the backend.
The Lakers didn’t go away easy though and even though penalties became an issue for them late in the game, they gave the Saints all they can handle but ultimately fell short in a great series of hockey.
Stay tuned to the Wreckhouse as they await their next opponent and we want to wish them the best of luck moving forward.
