PORT AUX BASQUES – The Gateway Curling Club hosted an Invitational Christmas Bonspiel from December 10-12. Five teams competed for the top prize of $500.
There were two teams entered from the Gateway Curling Club and three teams competing from the Corner Brook Curling Club. Round Robin play ended Saturday afternoon, Dec. 11, with three teams tied at 3 wins and 1 loss. After playdown games, teams Thomas and Oak advanced to the final. Team Thomas of the Gateway Curling Club won by a score of 6-0.
Technicians ensured that the ice conditions at the Bruce II Sports Centre were top notch, earning compliments from visiting teams. This is the first competitive tournament of this type hosted at the Gateway Curling Club but there are hopes for many more.
